Getting Started

FAQs about getting started

Have a question? Call us!

For any questions about coming to the unit, please call our team on 01483 227 814

So you want to come to us for treatment? What do you need to do?

We will need a referral letter, which can either come from your GP or from your gynaecologist. This letter should state both you and your partner’s names, dates of birth, as well as your address and a contact phone number.

This letter should be sent to us at The Victoria Wing, Nuffield Health, Woking Hospital, Shores Road, Woking, GU21 4BY.

Once we have your letter we will send you out an appointment pack. This has information about the unit, and will also contain the details of your semen analysis (if one is needed) and your initial consultation, both of which are held at the Victoria Wing.

The appointment pack will also have details of all the screening tests that we need from you. This will include hormone tests (such as AMH) which are done by us, a couple of weeks before your initial consultation. These will help to guide our decision-making on the best form of treatment for you.

We will also need some blood tests to screen you and your partner for infectious diseases. These can be done by us, or by your GP.

Do you have age limits for treatment?

We are able to treat women up to the age of 45 using their own eggs. Female patients age 45-49 may be treated using donated eggs.

Can I refer myself for treatment?

If you have already been seen by Mr Riddle, Mr Curtis or Miss Chandra then we may be able to accept a self-referral letter. Otherwise we need to have a referral from your doctor (GP or gynaecologist).

Can I change my appointments if they aren’t convenient?

Yes absolutely you can. This may however lead to a slight delay before you are seen at the unit. Just call our appointments co-ordinator on 01483 227 846.

Will my GP charge for the screening tests?

Your doctor may agree to perform these tests for free, but they are under no obligation to do so. If they are charging you then do compare our charges, as you may find it cheaper and quicker to have the tests done at Nuffield Health, Woking Hospital.

Is there a waiting list for treatment?

We see you as soon as possible, but there can sometimes be a delay of a few weeks, depending on the availability of appointments. If you wish to see a specific doctor then this can sometimes increase your waiting time.

What if I change my mind about treatment?

If you no longer want your appointments, please do let us know on 01483 227 846. Our appointments are always in demand, and we could then offer them to another patient.

I’m not sure whether I want to come to the Victoria Wing for my treatment. Do I have to commit?

No, absolutely not. Why not call 01483 227 814 and arrange to come and look around the Unit. We’d love to meet you at an informal visit. It’s free, and gives you a chance to look around and meet some of the team. There is no obligation to come and have treatment with us afterwards.
